The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, today invited Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to sign the "interstate" agreement on the removal of borders and customs duties between Kosovo and Albania.
Thaci said that Kosovo is ready to abolish the border and customs starting today, stating that Albanians on both sides of the border are "brothers and the same nation".
"I confirm on behalf of the institutions of Kosovo, that today and not tomorrow, Kosovo is ready to make a decision to remove the border, customs and any other barriers in relation to Albania. From today, there would be no barriers between the two countries. I invite my friend For Edi Ramu to make such a decision, I am ready to wait for it," said Thaci at the press conference.
Speaking about the relations with Rama after the summit in Tirana and the numerous negative comments that were addressed to the Albanian Prime Minister from Kosovo, Thaci said that he appreciated the contribution of his "friend Rama".
"We are brothers, I cannot betray the interests of Albania or Kosovo, because both of our countries function as normal countries, with modern constitutions and laws. I appreciate the contribution of the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, because he is my friend by my choice, I appreciate his commitment to peace and stability," Thaci said.
He assessed that it should be kept in mind that Serbia should be treated with "another language", especially initiatives aimed at "not treating Kosovo as an equal state", which, as he stated, can give Serbia an alibi not to recognize, that is, to postpone the recognition of Kosovo .
