Prime Minister Ana Brnabić assessed that the agreement, if fully implemented, will mean better relations between Serbs and Albanians and a "more stable and prosperous region".
She said in a guest appearance on TV Prva that the agreement opened the door for better relations between Serbia and the USA, "that we will only understand the importance" of that agreement.
Brnabić states that the items concerning the creation of the Serbian state office in Jerusalem, the 5G network, the diversification of energy supplies, are not a trap for Serbia and that "every word of the Serbian delegation was measured".
"The Americans wanted us to switch more to liquefied natural gas that comes from the USA... President Aleksandar Vučić said that we cannot switch to more expensive gas and expose citizens to that cost. Nothing is clearly defined (in the agreement), we are opening the door for even more strategic cooperation with the USA and does not compromise our cooperation with either China or the Russian Federation... The agreement opens one door but does not close all others," she said.
As the three most important points of the agreement, Brnabić cites the joining of Pristina to the "mini Schengen" initiative, additional road and railway infrastructure, which will mean connecting the region and improving the economic situation, as well as the presence of the US Development Fund
"We want to start building the road from Niš to Pločnik in the first quarter of 2021 or at the end of that quarter, which is extremely important for the citizens of Prokuplje and Niš... Another infrastructure project is the railway that goes from Kosova Polje to Merdar, which will mean to the citizens (in Kosovo)," Brnabić assessed.
She stated that the opening of that office will attract American investors and more financing for micro, small and medium enterprises in Serbia, and that the agreement will mean more jobs and better wages for both communities.
"We do not have a competition with Pristina here. A good agreement is one that is a win for both Belgrade and Pristina. I saw that their delegation was under a lot of pressure whether to sign or not to sign... Reconciliation is a priority, we want better relations (of everyone in the region)," said Brnabić.
Speaking about the item related to Lake Gazivode, Brnabić said that it was an "unpleasant surprise" for Serbia, but that the special representative of the US president, Richard Grenell, told them that the best agreements come from something that is "a surprise for both sides."
"It is an interesting point of view, he is a very good negotiator and without him we would not have reached an agreement... For us (mutual recognition) was a red line, then President Vučić sent me a message and a big thank you to the administration in Washington for heard and withdrew it, and let's continue negotiations," said Brnabić.
In response to Grenel's statement, who stated after the negotiations that no party had signed a document with the USA and that it was not a bilateral agreement with the USA, Brnabić said that only Trump can guarantee that the Development Fund will come, that is, that the USA mediated in negotiations and that he is the direct guarantor of its implementation.
"It is important for us that we did not sign anything directly with Pristina that would imply that we recognize the statehood of Kosovo in any way... You again have to find creative ways to push some things further, to turn to the future without implicitly or directly recognize (Kosovo)," says Brnabić.
Regarding other foreign policy items in the agreement, such as refraining from 5G components from "unverified suppliers" or declaring Hezbollah a terrorist organization, the Prime Minister said that it was expected that the US would "push" items important to them.
As another important point, he mentions the protection of the assets of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija, and that Serbia will insist on this during the continuation of political negotiations conducted under the auspices of the European Union.
