Stano: Ask Vučić and Hoti if they knew what they were signing in Washington

The question of whether the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo knew what they were signing in Washington, where they pledged to open embassies in Jerusalem, should be asked of them, because the European Union was not informed about it, the representative of the European Commission, Peter Stano, said today in Brussels.

"You asked if they knew what they were signing. I think that's a very good question for them," Stano said in response to a journalist's question - Croatian news agency Hina reported.

Hina reminds that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, signed a document in Washington last Sunday committing that Serbia will move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Avdulah Hoti, signed a similar document in which he undertook that Kosovo would to open its embassy in Israel in Jerusalem when diplomatic relations between Kosovo and Israel are established.

Stano added that the European Union had information about the economic aspects of the meeting between Serbia and Kosovo in Washington, but that it did not know about the part related to the establishment of relations between Kosovo and Israel and the relocation of the Serbian embassy.

Stano reminded that the EU is neutral in relation to Jerusalem, that is, it stands for a solution "according to the model of two states" - Israel and Palestine, which can coexist peacefully and Jerusalem being the capital of both states.

No EU member has an embassy in Jerusalem.

Today, Vučić and Hoti negotiated again in Brussels under the auspices of the EU on the normalization of relations and published a joint statement in which they say that they give "the highest priority to European integration and the continuation of the dialogue under the auspices of the EU, which is a key element of their path towards the EU", stated Hina.

Vučić and Hoti also promised to intensify their efforts to ensure compliance with the EU in accordance with their obligations.

In their joint statement published by the diplomatic service of the EU, it is said that the recently agreed documents in Washington, concluded on the basis of previously assumed commitments within the dialogue under the auspices of the EU, "can represent a useful contribution to the achievement of a comprehensive, legally binding agreement on the normalization of relations" between Kosovo and Serbia, Hina reported.
