Consequences murder of Oliver Ivanovic it will depend above all on the ethnicity of the perpetrator, that is, whether he is a Serb or an Albanian, said analyst Edward Joseph from Johns Hopkins University in an interview for the Voice of America's Albanian service.
"If it is an internal Serbian conflict, the Albanians are not involved and there would not have to be an incendiary reaction. However, if the Albanians are involved, the consequences are much more serious. Then this murder acquires a political character and becomes, as the president (of Serbia, Aleksandar ) Vučić already said - an attack on the entire Serbian nation," he said, adding that "the feeling that they were attacked would be shared by the entire Serbian community."
According to him, "it is encouraging that President (Hashim) Thaci clearly condemned the murder and said that efforts will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice."
Jozef assessed that the murder of Ivanovic already had a negative impact when the Serbian delegation left the negotiations in Brussels, adding that the consequences are serious and that "an incident of that type certainly raises tensions".
"The potential for escalation of tensions is present in Kosovo, that is a reality. Oliver Ivanovic is an icon, someone I knew personally, probably the most famous Serb in Kosovo. His death will affect everyone in Kosovo, and the Serbs will carefully watch the investigation and especially - the identity perpetrators," Edward Joseph told VOA.
