The leader of the Civic Initiative "Serbia, Democracy, Justice" Oliver Ivanovic was killed in a shooting that took place this morning in Kosovska Mitrovica.
Ivanovic was shot as he entered the premises of his party.
The director of the Clinical and Hospital Center in Kosovska Mitrovica, Milan Ivanovic, said that the doctors of that health facility declared Ivanovic dead at 9.15:8.30 a.m. Milan Ivanović said at a press conference at the Clinical Hospital Center in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica that the GI SDP leader was admitted to the hospital with at least five gunshot wounds in the upper part of the chest. "He was admitted without signs of life. The doctors took all the necessary measures, from 9.15:9.15 to XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. the cardiac function was not restored and at XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. death was declared," said Milan Ivanović.
Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Mitrovica Šićiri Sila told the Pristina portal Ekspres (Expres) that Ivanovic was shot from a moving car. Sila told the portal that at least three shots were fired at Ivanovic. "An unknown assailant shot at Oliver Ivanovic from a moving car," said Sila, stating that the killing took place in front of the headquarters of the SDP Civic Initiative in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
The Kosovo Police announced that immediately after receiving information about the murder of Oliver Ivanovic, members of the police found material evidence on the spot that will be used in the further investigation.
"Around 9.15:XNUMX a.m. in Vojvoda Putnika Street in the north of Mitrovica, a private vehicle 'Opel Astra' without license plates was found on fire, and it is suspected that it may be connected to the case of murder," the statement reads.
A burned car was found near the northern Kosovo settlement of Zvecan, which according to BIRN sources was used by Ivanovic's assassins. Ivanović was accused of war crimes committed against civilians in 1999 and 2000, and after the annulment of the first-instance verdict, he defended himself from freedom.

Due to the murder of Oliver Ivanovic, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić scheduled an emergency meeting of the National Security Council at 12 noon.
Biography of Oliver Ivanovic
Oliver Ivanović was born on April 1, 1953 in the village of Rznić near Dečan. He finished elementary school and mechanical engineering school in Kosovska Mitrovica. He was a cadet at the Military Academy in Zagreb, but left it after three years. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Mitrovica, and in Pristina he also graduated from the Faculty of Economics.
He worked in the Mitrovica transport company "TransKosovo", the ceramic tile factory "Mozaik" and the representative office of the company "Hepok" from Mostar. From 1991 to 1998, he was the head of the sports center in Kosovska Mitrovica. He held the position of deputy general manager of the company "Feronikl" from Glogovac until 2004, when he became the director of the National Employment Service for Kosovo and Metohija.
When the Serbian National Council was formed in 1999, Ivanovic became the president of its Executive Committee for Northern Kosovo. He was dismissed from that position in 2001. When the governments of the FRY and Serbia formed the Coordination Center for Kosovo and Metohija, he was appointed head of the Service for Economic Development and Reconstruction. Since 2008, he has held the position of State Secretary in the Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party, which no longer exists. He was an instructor and international karate referee. He was also the president of the "Trepča" karate club.
He was married and the father of three sons.
