The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said today that for eight years he has been hearing how he will betray Kosovo, even though, as he claims, he fights every day to improve the position of the Serbian people there.
"For eight years now, I have been hearing that I am the one who will betray Kosovo, and I try to fight for our people in Kosovo every day. While some were typing on the keyboard how ugly, fat and disgusting I am, I was working yesterday and the day before the whole day. And I wasn't with my children, like many others were. And so countless weekends and vacations," said Vučić at a press conference when asked to comment on academician Matija Bećković's statement at the funeral of Metropolitan Amfilohi that "Kosovo will issue only coward".
He said that it is no coincidence that Serbs from Kosovo have always given their support to rational and responsible politics, "not to noisemakers", almost by plebiscite.
"Everything is just respecters of the Kosovo covenant in the environment, and lovers of great and important Serbs, and they cannot do anything against the independence of Kosovo (to withdraw independence), but we will also attribute that to the great traitor Vučić. And we will also salt his mind that he is a traitor ... And those to whom 85 countries recognized the independence of Kosovo turned out to be Obilići, and we, to whom 18 countries withdrew recognition, turned out to be Brankovići," he said.
Speaking about relations in the region, Vučić said that he "asked" the members of the new Government of Serbia to "tolerate more and answer less" in relation to criticism from neighboring countries.
"I asked them not to get into political arguments, to let them talk bad about us, without us having to answer at the first ball. This does not mean that we are afraid of anyone, but that we want good and better relations with everyone and that only we want to compete with everyone in the economy and the rate of growth and GDP," said Vučić.
