The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), Patriarch Irinej, is in a very serious condition, media in Serbia report, referring to the Patriarchate of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Irinej is infected with the coronavirus and is in the Military Hospital at Karaburma in Belgrade.
Several media even announced that he had died, referring to their own knowledge.
"The permanent council of doctors, with the presence of doctors from the Russian Federation, after examining His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia, Mr. Irinej, and looking at the laboratory analyzes done during the morning, concluded that this morning's deterioration is the result of COVID-19 and that the health condition of His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia, Mr. Irinej, is complex, but stable. The public will continue to be informed about the state of health of His Holiness," the SPC officially announced.
Irresponsible and immoral false reporting, misleading and harassment of the public, even by certain church figures
SPC announced that due to the false news about the alleged death of Irinej, it informs the public that, according to the official report of the council of doctors who take care of Irinej's health, his condition is unchanged compared to the report they published this morning.
"We consider this kind of false reporting to be extremely irresponsible and immoral, as well as the deliberate deceiving and harassment of the entire public, even by certain church figures, as well as some media that until now could be trusted as much as possible. We invite everyone to pray for the health of our Patriarch and that are informed about his state of health from the official announcements of the Council of Physicians and on the official website of the Information Service of the Serbian Orthodox Church," said the SPC.
The SPC officially announced this morning that Irinej's health condition has worsened.
