The officials of the Republika Srpska (RS) sent their condolences to all the bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), monks, clergy and the people on the occasion of the death of Patriarch Irinej.
The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), Patriarch Irinej, died early this morning.
"With his departure, our Church lost a great prayer leader and a true shepherd of his people, and we in the RS lost a great friend who shared good and bad with us since he ascended the patriarchal throne," said Milorad Dodik, Serbian member of the BiH Presidency, in a telegram of condolence. .
He added that Patriarch Irinej "has moved to eternity from where he will continue to watch over his people with his prayers".
"We remain eternally grateful for all the love, attention and blessings that we as a nation and the Republic received from Patriarch Irinej," pointed out Dodik.
RS President Željka Cvijanović stated that she "received the news of the death of Patriarch Irinej with deep regret and sadness."
"The departure of His Holiness represents a huge loss and grief for the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Serbian people, but also for the entire Christian world," stated Cvijanović.
She added that Patriarch Irinej showed the believing people and clergy the path of peace, justice and wisdom even in difficult and challenging times.
The chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Zoran Tegeltija, also sent a telegram of condolence, who assessed that the death of Patriarch Irinej represents "a great loss for the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Serbian people, the entire Christian world and all people of good faith."
"The Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian people have lost a great spiritual leader, who dedicated his life to building harmony among believers, peace among people, justice and kindness," said Tegeltija.
"In these difficult moments, we need the composure and solidarity of the Serbian people," Tegeltija's condolence telegram states.
The president of the Socialist Party, Petar Đokić, also sent a telegram of condolence.
Karađorđević: Irinej will be remembered as a fighter for the Church and the Serbian people
Prince Aleksandar Karađorđević said today that he received the news of the death of Patriarch Irinej with great sadness and that the entire Serbian nation was left without a great spiritual leader.
