A contingent of 50.000 Russian Sputnik V vaccines was delivered to Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport this morning.
The loading of vaccines in Moscow was attended by the Minister of Innovation and Technological Development, Nenad Popović, who assessed that the delivery of vaccines against the coronavirus is "the strongest proof of the fraternal relations between the two countries".
"No country in Europe has received as many vaccines from Russia as Serbia has received. At this moment, when Russia itself is facing difficulties in distributing enough vaccines to its regions, it is helping brotherly Serbia and sending vaccines when we need them the most," he said. was conveyed by the minister to his cabinet.
He assessed that if immunization continues at the current pace, Serbia can "be the first to defeat the pandemic, continue to strengthen the economy and attract investments, and strengthen the role of economic leader in this part of Europe."
After arriving at the Nikola Tesla airport, the vaccines were transported to the Torlak Institute, from where they will be distributed to vaccination centers throughout Serbia.
Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar said that so far 557.000 citizens have received the first and some the second dose of the vaccine against the coronavirus.
Lončar also assessed that, considering that the number of newly infected people is not decreasing on a daily basis, it is "clear" that the measures to suppress the epidemic are not sufficiently respected.
Speaking to journalists at the Torlak Institute, where he received the second dose of the vaccine, Lončar appealed to citizens to respect the measures even after vaccination, stating that the battle against the virus is not won after the first dose received.
He added that if citizens are disciplined and if the current pace of immunization continues, it is possible to bring the epidemic "under control" by summer.
