Since this morning, the special units of the Kosovo Police are in the immediate vicinity of two crossings in the North of Kosovo - Jarinje and Brnjak, reports KoSSev, and N1 reports.
Members of the Kosovo police take away license plates of vehicles with markings from the north of Kosovo, while vehicles with marking plates from central Serbia must take trial markings and pay insurance, which the authorities in Pristina previously informed the Serbian police about.
Due to the action of the Kosovo police, Serbs from the north of Kosovo blocked the road to Jarinje, and the president of the Serbian List, Goran Rakić, requested the reaction of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the European Union.
The N1 reporter reported around 12.30:XNUMX that the situation at the Merdare border crossing is calm and that the new measures are being implemented smoothly - drivers with Serbian license plates change them and cross the border.
"Ordinary people can't do anything. As they conduct, we have to play as well. We had fire plates. I was at the checkpoint in Belgrade, my brother was supposed to take me home. We stayed there for an hour without any help," said Mifalj Demiri for N1.
Andrić: 9.500 vehicles with Serbian license plates captured in Kosovo
Milica Andrić from the non-governmental organization (NGO) "New Social Initiative" stated that 9.500 vehicles with Serbian license plates were captured in Kosovo.
She stated that the Kosovo government's decision to ban Serbian license plates is unilateral and is an unsolvable problem for the owners of 9.500 cars registered in central Serbia, N1 reports.
Andrić said that as a sign of protest, local Serbs set up barricades near the Brnjak and Jarinje border (in Serbia they are called administrative) crossings, while special units of the Kosovo police with long weapons and armored vehicles are also located nearby.
"At the moment, there is no traffic at Jarinje and Brnjak, while other crossings are passable. The MUP of Kosovo announced only this morning that the license plates issued in the displaced Kosovo police administrations in central Serbia, of which there are around 9.500, are not valid," said Andrić. .
She stressed that the MUP of Kosovo will not issue test plates for those vehicles, and the existing Serbian plates will be confiscated.
"So, according to the unanimous decision of the Ministry of Interior of Kosovo, 9.500 cars with the markings PR, PE, PZ, KM, UR and DJ will no longer be able to drive. According to the current legal regulations, these vehicles will not even be able to be re-registered," explained Andrić.
She added that the Kosovo government has not explained what will happen to cars with Serbian license plates.
"It is not known whether they might even be confiscated. Those vehicles had limited mobility until now, they could only move in the municipalities in the north of Kosovo and only cross Jarinje and Brnjak," said Andrić.
Rakić is looking for reactions from Vučić and the EU
The president of the Serbian List and the Kosovo Minister for Return and Community, Goran Rakić, asked for reactions from the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the European Union (EU).
"This is directly aimed against the interests of the Serbian people. This is not an action, this is a reaction. Vučić, react, the people are upset and scared. We will also ask the EU to react," said Jarinja Rakić.
Rakić, as reported by KoSSev, said that the people are very anxious and afraid for their safety and for their economic survival, as well as for their families.
"This is not an action, this is the reaction of people who are worried about their future, their children and their families," he said.
Vučić will speak today, he has scheduled a meeting of the National Security Council for tomorrow
N1 reports that Vučić will address the public today at 18 pm in the building of the General Secretariat of the President of the Republic.
He stated on his Instagram profile that today he spoke with Miroslav Lajčak about the "difficult crisis in Kosovo and Metohija" and that "he will soon inform the public about everything that is happening in the north of the province".
As previously reported by N1, Vučić "scheduled an emergency meeting of the National Security Council for tomorrow at 10 a.m., where the main topic will be the events in Kosovo and Metohija, Večernje Novosti has learned."
Kurti: Nothing illegal is happening, the implementation of the agreement that Serbia agreed to begins today
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Aljbin Kurti, said that "establishing reciprocity for the installation of temporary Kosovo plates for cars with Serbian license plates is not Kosovo's wish, but Serbia's imposition".
"As prime minister, I assure you that the actions taken today by the competent authorities to implement this decision are not directed against the citizens of Serbia, they do not aim to hinder the free movement of Serbian citizens or cause any destabilization. I expect everyone to understand that nothing is happening today illegal, today begins the implementation of the agreement that Serbia agreed to," Kurti said in parliament.
Petković: Either the Brussels Agreement will be respected or it will not be
The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija of the Government of Serbia, Petar Petković, told the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Aljbin Kurti, "Either the Brussels Agreement will be respected or there won't be."
MIA of Kosovo: The goal is to implement the agreement on free movement - especially vehicle registration plates
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Đeljalj Svećlja, posted a statement on his Facebook account stating that the actions of the Kosovo MUP are aimed at enforcing the agreement on free movement - especially vehicle registration plates.
"On this occasion, the MUP, in order to enable the free movement of citizens after the expiration of the contract of September 14, 2014, issued a decision regulating and mandating the provision of temporary license plates for all vehicles with Serbian license plates that enter the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, on all border crossings," the announcement reads.
It is also added that as of September 15, vehicles with license plates with the initials "KS" can no longer drive, and that the only official and valid plates are those issued by officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and marked "RKS".
The statement also emphasizes that the situation is peaceful and that the police have taken all measures to prevent the movement of people and goods from being hindered.
Simić: Most of the armored vehicles deployed in Jarinje and Brnjak, ROSU units carry "long pipes"
Around nine o'clock this morning, RTS reported that the confiscation of plates with markings from the north of Kosovo has begun, while vehicles with markings from central Serbia must take trial markings and pay insurance.
As reported by RTS at the time, insurance is charged at five euros, and test plates last for two months.
The vice-president of the Serbian List, Igor Simić, told TV Pink this morning that mostly armored vehicles are deployed at the crossings of Jarinje and Brnjak, and that members of the ROSU unit carry "long pipes".
"Citizens in the north of Kosovo are disturbed by this show of force. The Presidency of the Serbian List held a meeting this morning and called on citizens not to succumb to provocations because Pristina wants to destabilize the situation," said Simić.
Stating that the action is related to the topic of license plates, the vice-president of the Serbian List assessed that "the intention of the Pristina authorities is to deny freedom of movement to Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija".
"This is a brutal violation of the Brussels Agreement, but I hope that a political solution will be found," Simic said.
KoSSEV: Special vehicles deployed, noticeable disturbance
The KoSSev portal reported around eight o'clock this morning that around 15 vehicles of special units and additional police vehicles, a little after five o'clock this morning, were deployed behind the Jarinje crossing, that is, along the road. Some of the vehicles are parked, such as the place at the turn for Banjska, and some of them are moving along the road, primarily police vehicles.
A little later this morning, after seven o'clock, at least ten armored vehicles and three white jeeps left for Zubin Potok.
In the north, there is a noticeable disturbance and increased civilian traffic, writes KoSSev.
Members of the Kosovo Police delivered several mobile prefabricated containers to the Jarinje crossing yesterday and on the night between Saturday and Sunday, reports N1.
Petkovic announced that Pristina will remove license plates
N1 reports that the director of the Office of the Government of Serbia for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, said that the authorities in Pristina plan to start removing Serbian license plates at crossings on Monday and replace them with so-called temporary Pristina test marks.
The introduction of this measure after September 15 was announced at the beginning of the month by the Vice President of the Kosovo Government, Besnik Bislimi.
He then said that Kosovo will not accept the extension of the temporary agreement on license plates after September 15 and that it will behave the same as Serbia when it comes to cars with Kosovo license plates (RKS).
