Faithful dog North slipped down the slope on Velebit with a young mountaineer, who was injured on that occasion. North kept him warm with his body for 13 hours, until rescuers arrived, announced the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service.
The action to rescue the mountaineer lasted almost nine hours, because the young mountaineer and the dog North were on extremely inaccessible terrain. 27 rescuers participated in the action, Indeks reports.
The mountain rescue service announced that they handed over the mountaineer to the emergency medical aid team.
The rescuers dedicated the post on Twitter to the loyalty of North, who was by his friend's side all the time, stressing that the friendship and love between man and dog knows no boundaries.
"In a series of unfortunate circumstances yesterday afternoon they slid down the slope together. Together in happy and difficult times, such is life. North escaped without injury, but his friend, a young mountaineer was not so lucky. He curled up next to him and warmed him with his body . His devotion did not stop even when the rescuers arrived, he was one of us guarding his man for 13 hours. From this example we can all learn about caring for each other," HGSS wrote.
