A member of the Serbian Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Stanojević, was killed today in the UN peacekeeping mission in the Congo, the Ministry of Defense of Serbia announced.
Lt. Col. Stanojević died in a helicopter crash on a regular task of aerial reconnaissance in eastern Congo, according to the announcement.
"According to the first information, the helicopter was shot from the ground, after which the aircraft caught fire and crashed. There were no survivors in the helicopter crash," stated the Ministry of Defense of Serbia.
Stanojević (43) was in the Serbian Army since September 28, 2002, and in the UN mission in Congo since October 24, 2021.
As stated, the Serbian Army has lost an honorable member, an excellent officer and an expert in electronic operations units.
During his military career, he was awarded and praised several times, and he left behind his wife and two minor children.
