Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said today before the beginning of the meeting of the leaders of the EU and the countries of the Western Balkans in Brussels that Bulgaria "kidnapped" Albania and North Macedonia.
"It is a shame that a NATO member country, Bulgaria, kidnaps two other members, Albania and North Macedonia, in the middle of a war in Europe's backyard, while the other 26 countries sit scared and powerless," said Rama.
He added that Albania has known for a long time that there are "two Bulgarias" on that road (in the EU).
Rama announced that Albania will not change the European course. "What we need to do is to continue building Europe at home," Rama said.
He said that the "Open Balkans" initiative is the right answer for regional cooperation while the path of the countries to the EU, for which "there is no alternative", is still ongoing.
Rama stated that "the European spirit should be built" in the Western Balkans and that the region should not fall behind.
Regarding Kosovo's participation in the "Open Balkans", Rama said that the initiative is "open to everyone".
