Albanian police arrested two Russians and a Ukrainian who tried to break into a weapons factory in central Albania and wounded two soldiers who blocked their way.
As the Ministry of Defense of Albania announced last night, one of the suspects attacked the guards while trying to photograph the factory in Gramš, where the dismantling of unused weapons is being carried out.
"A Russian citizen, identified as 24-year-old MZ, used a neuroparalytic spray against two guards," the statement said.
The other two, a 33-year-old Russian identified as ST and a 25-year-old Ukrainian identified as FA, were arrested near the factory.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the three arrested were "suspected of espionage".
Members of the military police and the intelligence and anti-terrorist service are conducting an investigation.
Albania has been a member of NATO since 2009.
