As part of a multi-day visit to the United States of America (USA), the delegation of the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP), which includes Dragan Đilas, Borko Stefanović and Marinika Tepić, had a meeting with the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Karen Donfried, in Washington today at the State Department. and the special representative of the USA for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, it was announced from the SSP.
It was stated that the president of the SSP conveyed to the interlocutors the position on the necessity of harmonizing Serbia's foreign policy with the policy of the European Union (EU) with the assessment that Europe's behavior towards Serbia was wrong, such as the false threats of freezing the European integration process heard from Brussels.
He assessed that this will not contribute to the growth of EU support in Serbia, nor to a better life for citizens and added that for the future of Serbia, political and economic relations with the USA are of priority importance.
"We are aware that this is the moment when we have to make up our minds, and that is why Serbia must not make the mistake of marginalizing itself and excluding itself from the currents of modern civilization. The EU is our largest trading partner, the economic development of Serbia is conditioned by the fact that the most of direct investments comes from the West, and a responsible foreign policy that puts Serbia's interests first must be based on these facts," Đilas emphasized.
As part of the conversation, the Deputy President of the SSP Borko Stefanović informed the American officials that, as the chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Serbian Parliament, immediately after the formation of the government, he would put on the agenda of the Committee a statement on the harmonization of foreign policy with the EU and added that "peace, renunciation of the use powers, respect for international law and dialogue on all open issues - the postulates on which the SAA policy rests".
SSP Vice-President Marinika Tepić spoke about the violation of human rights, freedom of the media, but also crime and corruption, and presented the proposal of the Party of Freedom and Justice on the formation of a regional center for the fight against organized crime in Belgrade, which is necessary, because, as she pointed out, "crime does not recognize national borders, so an effective fight against it requires a regional approach and cooperation".
The delegation of the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) continues its visit to the United States of America with meetings in the National Security Council, the Senate and the Congress, it was stated in the announcement.
