Albanian authorities denied today that the country's police system had been hacked, following local media reports that an Iranian hacker group had published information about people under investigation for crimes.
Albanian media reported that information from the police database containing a list of suspects being investigated by the police for various crimes was leaked.
According to experts on the channel called "Homeland Justice", 1,7 gigabytes of data from the police system Memex (Memex) were published.
State police denied that its Memex system had been breached, but urged local media not to publish the hacker's information.
Albanian Interior Minister Bledi Čuči said that the list did not come from the database of the criminal police. He said that Microsoft and the FBI are helping the Albanian authorities recover the affected systems.
Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his address to the parliament that the aim is to cause social disturbances by publishing the amended list that mixes criminals with politicians, journalists and others.
Last month, Albania severed diplomatic ties with Iran following a July 15 cyber attack that temporarily shut down numerous Albanian government digital services and websites.
