Borko Stefanović (SSP), chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs in the Serbian Parliament, submitted to that body a proposal for a resolution on harmonizing the foreign policy of Serbia with the foreign policy of the European Union in the form of restrictive measures towards the Russian Federation.
As stated in the explanation, among other things, Russia's military attack on the sovereign and internationally recognized state of Ukraine, as well as the unilateral attempt of the Russian Federation to split off the eastern parts of Ukraine, led to the almost unanimous condemnation of almost the entire world, especially the European Union.
Stefanović reminds that Serbia is a candidate for EU membership and that it is the obligation of that country to harmonize its foreign policy with the Union, especially with regard to restrictive measures towards the Russian Federation and its leadership. reports Nova.rs.

"Proceeding from the commitment of the Republic of Serbia to the preservation and full application of international law, all valid resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, as well as all other international documents of the OSCE, the Council of Europe and other international organizations that ensure international public order and respect for the territorial integrity of UN member states,
"Adhering to the letter and spirit of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia and all adopted parliamentary resolutions on Kosovo and Metohija, as part of the Republic of Serbia,
"Recalling that the Republic of Serbia condemned the aggression of the Russian Federation against the sovereign and internationally recognized state of Ukraine, as well as that our country expressed full support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine, while condemning the attempt to unilaterally seize the territory of Ukraine by the Russian Federation,
"Considering that the Russian Federation unilaterally and violently, with military force and aggression, attacked the internationally recognized and sovereign state of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, as well as that this act was condemned by the vast majority of UN member states in the corresponding resolutions of the UN General Assembly, as well as that it is in the national and state interest of the Republic of Serbia that it cannot in any form support secession, aggression or seizure of the territories of internationally recognized states, including Ukraine, taking into account our Constitution and state interest in the matter of protecting constitutional treatment and relations with Kosovo and Metohija, as part of the Republic of Serbia.
"Underlining the fact that the Republic of Serbia has been a candidate country for membership in the European Union since 2012 and that it has been working for more than two decades on harmonizing its legislative, economic, security and value framework with the EU, as well as that the policy of Serbia's entry into the European Union is decided by the citizens supported Serbia in all elections since 2000,
"Welcoming the full commitment of all the Governments of Serbia so far for Serbia to join the European Union in the shortest possible time, fulfilling the clear obligations and criteria set out in advance, respecting the fact that Serbia is an old European country and that Europe is the place to which we belong for centuries,
"Taking into account the obligations that we as a country took on the path to EU membership, as well as our economic interests, attracting and deepening excellent economic and overall economic cooperation with companies from the EU, as a group of countries from which the largest number of foreign investments in our economy come , with whom we have the most developed trade exchange and in whose companies hundreds of thousands of our citizens work,
"Given the pressure, violence, unilateral interpretation of the agreements reached and all other acts against the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, carried out by the Government of Aljbin Kurti, which puts the Republic of Serbia in an unfavorable international situation and under constant pressure, while at the same time wanting to successfully defend Kosovo and Metohija as a part of Serbia on the international scene, avoiding international isolation and the status of a pariah state,
"Understanding that the European Union has introduced several packages of sanctions against the Russian Federation and its leadership due to the attack on Ukraine against international law, and that this attack has caused more than eight million refugees, tens of thousands of deaths and war crimes.
"Stressing that we are aware of the modest range of sanctions that the Republic of Serbia would introduce to the Russian Federation, while at the same time we do not believe in sanctions as an effective tool of international relations,
"Believing, at the same time, that the whole of Europe stands united in the policy of sanctions against the Russian Federation and the Russian leadership, and that Serbia is the only European country, apart from Belarus and Turkey, which has not introduced any package of sanctions against the Russian leadership, as well as that the war in Ukraine is permanent changed the structure of international relations and the general climate and rules in the world,
"Knowing that the deviation of Europe towards the Russian leadership will remain in force in the economic, energy, political and security segments even when the war finally ends, as well as that such a situation has created a virtual Berlin Wall in Europe and that Serbia must not be on the wrong side as several times in the past,
"Especially stressing that the attitude of the Republic of Serbia towards restrictive measures against the Russian Federation and its leadership cannot be connected with our traditionally good relations with the Russian people, respecting until recently the identical view of respect for international law and order and keeping memories of our historic alliances in major wars and our cultural and religious connection,
"The following binding guidelines are established for the Government of the Republic of Serbia, as well as for all other state bodies:
1. The Government of the Republic of Serbia will harmonize its foreign policy with the European Union as soon as possible regarding restrictive measures (sanctions) against the Russian Federation and its leadership and introduce an appropriate package of sanctions against the Russian Federation and its leadership.
2. The Government of the Republic of Serbia will independently determine which of the package of restrictive measures against the Russian Federation can be applied immediately, taking into account the dynamics of international relations and the current situation, as well as the pressures that exist on the Republic of Serbia from international factors.
3. The guidelines from this Resolution are binding for the Government of Serbia and all state bodies, and they are obliged to respect the letter of the Resolution, as well as to regularly report to the National Assembly on the application of this Resolution and its implications for the international, political, economic and security position of our country. as well as the dynamics of our European integrations", the document states.
