Former director of the Customs Administration of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and one of Slobodan Milošević's close associates, Mihalj Kertes, died at the age of 75, it was confirmed for portal Nova.rs.
Mihalj Kertes was born on August 29, 1947 in Bačka Palanka, and was elected director of the Customs Administration of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1993 and remained in that position until October 2000.
He entered the political structure of the Bačka Palanka Municipal Council in 1981, and in 1986 he was the secretary of the municipal committee of the League of Communists.
Kertesz's rise to high politics began during the Anti-Bureaucratic Revolution, supporting Milosevic's policies - he started protests in Bačka Palanka and led the protesters to Novi Sad.
He was elected as a member of the Serbian Parliament in the 1990 elections, in Grocka, where he never lived. He was soon appointed head of the State Security Service of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and assistant to the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs.
After October 5, Kertes was convicted, accused, or was a witness in several trials.
He was a member of the Socialist Party of Serbia from its foundation, and in early December 2015, the media announced that he had become a member of the Serbian Progressive Party, writes Nova.rs.
