The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said today in Verona that he soon expects the abolition of work permits within the framework of the Open Balkans and that this is the basis of economic cooperation between the countries involved.
"I expect the process of securing work permits to be completed soon, and that would be, I dare say, the basis of economic cooperation between all of us," he said in Verona, where, as part of the Open Balkans initiative, he met with the prime ministers of North Macedonia and Albania, Dimitra Kovačevski and Edi By the shoulder. They visited the International Wine Fair VINITALY 2023.
"We discussed many important issues in order to prepare everything before the start of the summer season. We also discussed food safety and the harmonization of electronic tickets, receiving new identification cards, and all three of us agreed that we will be able to make progress in the coming months on this issue," he said. Vucic told reporters.
Serbia, he added, has increased imports and trade with North Macedonia by about 50 percent in the last three years.
The biggest obstacle in the Western Balkans is that trucks with goods spend 70 percent of the time at the border and 30 percent driving, we will have to work on that," added the President of Serbia.
When asked by a journalist whether the issue of Kosovo could be an obstacle between Serbia and Albania in the Open Balkans, he said that the leaders of the two countries lead a "responsible policy".
"Edi and I talk about cooperation, maybe sometimes we have conflicting statements, the economy is the basis of the relationship between our two countries. It is important that the citizens of those countries feel safe. It is easy to score political points by insulting someone," said Vučić and added that he believed in the future friendship between Serbian and Albanian people.
