On the Croatian coast these days it was possible to see baby dolphins. One such example comes from the towns of Vis and Lošinj, where photos of these animals were recorded, reports the Facebook page Blue World Institute.
"The breeding season of bottlenose dolphins has begun. Last week we saw the first newborn dolphins of the year, four near Vis and two near Lošinj. In the Vis archipelago, the newborn pups were in a group of more than thirty dolphins near Cape Stončica", it is stated on to this Facebook page.
The group, as it was added, mainly consisted of females with older cubs, but also 4 newborn cubs.
"At Olib, we saw Elsa (who until recently was part of the #adoptadolphin program) and her only a few days old cub. The second newborn cub from Lošinj is the latest offspring of the female Spy, seen with her mother and other dolphins in front of Veli Lošinj. The last time Spy had a cub in 2013, and we often meet her descendant, today's adult dolphin Frosty, in front of Lošinj," writes the Blue World Institute.
The gestation period for bottlenose dolphins is said to last 12 months.
In the Adriatic Sea, dolphins breed during the warm months, it added, mostly from May to September, and the young stay with their mother for the next three to five years.
"If you also have sightings of bottlenose dolphins, share them with us and get involved in monitoring bottlenose dolphins in the Adriatic," they wrote on this Facebook page.
