Today, the remains of thirty victims of the Srebrenica genocide were buried in the cemetery of the Potočari Memorial Center.
The youngest victim buried this year is Elvir Salčinović, who was 15 years old when he was killed, while the oldest buried victim is Nezir Muminović, who was 65 years old when he was killed.
Before the burial of the victims, the head of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Husein Kavazović, performed a funeral (religious ceremony).
"Srebrenica is a strong warning, first of all to us who survived, but, I hope, to generations to come," said Kavazović in Potočari.
He stated that "we should all ask ourselves how this happened and look at the consequences of what was done".
"Those who were behind this, who did not react all these years, knew what happened. The second thing is that the search process for the murdered person is not over," said the head of the IZ in BiH.
According to him, "the concealment of the crime of genocide was organized, and the government, which organized it, knew exactly what was happening."
"Twenty-eight years have passed, and we are still looking for a large number of people in the graves. I can't say that there is no catharsis, but it is very quiet, and with what we will celebrate the 30th anniversary, that is now the question," Kavazović said.
He pointed out that Bosniaks are ready to "accept the sincere repentance of those who sincerely repent".
"I ask God to grant the families of the victims every good thing, that their children be strong and strong, that they be a message to all those who did this, but also to those who may harbor the same in their souls for some future time," concluded the head of IZ in BIH.
The 28th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica was marked today in Potočari.
The commemoration was attended by members of the victims' families, numerous citizens, as well as numerous delegations from BiH, the region, Europe and the world, who laid flowers and paid their respects to the victims.
For the genocide and crimes in Srebrenica, which were committed in July 1995 by the Army of the Republika Srpska in the then "protected zone" under the control of the UN, more than 50 people have been sentenced to more than 700 years in prison before the Hague Tribunal and the courts in Bosnia and Herzegovina. .
Today is the Day of Mourning in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but not in the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because the Serbian ministers in the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina opposed the adoption of that decision.
