The State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) arrested, on the order of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirza Kapić for contacting members of the so-called radical structures. The Islamic State and the planning of a terrorist attack on a mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After questioning the suspect, the prosecutor of the Department for Terrorism of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina sent a proposal to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to order the detention of the suspect Kapić from Banja Luka, who lives in Zenica.
Kapić was previously convicted for being on the battlefields of Syria and Iraq, that is, for criminal offenses related to terrorism and being on foreign battlefields. He was sentenced to one year and ten months in prison.
The BiH Prosecutor's Office stated that the suspect is under investigation.
"It is alleged that last month, through electronic channels of communication, mobile phone and computer, using communication applications, he made contact with persons who support radical movements and structures that help the so-called Islamic State, and in correspondence he expressed his desire to carry out an explosive attack on one mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the end of July this year," announced the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
From the aforementioned persons, it is further written in the statement of the Prosecutor's Office, he asked for instructions for the production of an explosive device with a detonator via a mobile phone, "expressing the intention to attack scholars of the Islamic Community who publish proclamations against the Mujahideen and who report supporters of radical movements and the Islamic State. law enforcement agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina".
They state that it was prevented by the action of SIPA and the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and during the search, electronic devices were seized, which were used by the suspect and which will be the subject of a detailed expert examination.
The measure of detention was proposed due to the danger that the suspect could obstruct the investigation, commit a criminal offense again or complete what he had started by remaining at liberty.
More than 300 citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina left Bosnia and Herzegovina for Syria. In the first wave of (independent) return from Syria and Iraq, about thirty men and several women and children returned to Bosnia and Herzegovina by 2019. Most of the men were arrested and charged with some of the crimes related to terrorism or for joining foreign paramilitary and parapolice formations. Those who were convicted rarely received a prison sentence longer than three years (on average 26 months, or two years and two months).
Six women, 2019 children and seven men (who were on international warrants) returned from Syria in an organized manner at the end of 12. All were prosecuted and convicted.
