The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of North Macedonia announced today that it was established that a 21-year-old German citizen was waving the flag of "Greater Albania" in Tetovo last month and announced that criminal charges will be filed against him.
As stated, the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for General and Violent Crime, in cooperation with the Tetovo police, "illuminated the criminal-legal event that took place on August 11 in the square in Tetovo, when during the visit of Kosovo Prime Minister Aljbin Kurti, the flag of the so-called "great Albania" was unfurled. , by which a criminal offense was committed".
"After undertaking operational-tactical measures, the identity of the perpetrator of the criminal offense was established - it is AM (21), who is a German citizen. A criminal report will be filed against that person in coordination with the police in Tetovo under Article 319 of the Criminal Code to the competent prosecutor's office further on treatment", reads the statement of the MUP.
Article 319 of the Criminal Code of North Macedonia refers to "inciting national, racial and religious hatred, dissension and intolerance" and the penalty for this is one to five years in prison.
A flag with a map of the so-called "Greater Albania", which includes parts of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Greece, was flown at a meeting organized by the Municipality of Tetovo in the city square on August 11 on the occasion of the private visit of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Aljbin Kurti.
On August 18, the police published a photo of a man waving the flag of "Greater Albania" and called on citizens to report if they see him or have information about who he is.
