The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Kristijan Šmit said that the President of Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik does not have the authority and authority to order his arrest.
"I am protected by the Vienna Diplomatic Convention and therefore enjoy immunity. Despite that, Dodik would not have the authority to arrest me or order my arrest, because he does not have the authority to give instructions to the police. The prosecution would first have to clarify that," Schmidt said in an interview. for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina reported today.
Commenting on Dodik's announcements that he will order the RS police to arrest Šmit if the high representative comes to that entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šmit said that he plans to visit Republika Srpska in the coming days.
"Actually, I have appointments there in the next few days and weeks, especially in Banja Luka, but also in other cities. I stick to it and recommend Dodik not to push his selfish craziness anymore," said Šmit.
According to him, Dodik does not bring anything good to Republika Srpska.
"Then his supporters will understand that he does not always do what he says and that he does not bring anything good to his country," said the high representative in BiH.
Šmit added that Dodik had already tried to report him in Republika Srpska, and "the smart Banja Luka Public Prosecutor's Office, as a precautionary measure", immediately forwarded this procedure to the State Prosecutor's Office in Sarajevo, from whom, as he said, he had not heard anything further.
"Lastly, but not least, Dodik's behavior is a slap in the face to the EU, which is trying to improve the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is wrong if it thinks that there are special rights or special regulations for him," he pointed out.
The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina pointed out that Dodik "should prepare for some rather unpleasant moments".
Commenting on the possibility of dismissing Dodik, Šmit said that considerations about this are not being made in advance, adding that the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is already conducting an investigation against Dodik.
"We will see how the international community will deal with someone who with his actions massively torpedoes the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at the same time acts as a close ally of (Russian President) Vladimir Putin," he concluded.
