Police officials of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) detained several former commanders and members of the Republika Srpska Army (VRS) suspected of participation in the genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995 in the area of Zvornik, Šeković, Han Pijeska, Vlasenica and Bileća, the Prosecution announced. By order of the prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes, the suspects accused of participating in the capture and murder of around 70 victims, men and boys of Bosniak nationality, as well as one woman, were detained on July 15, 19 and 23, 1995 at the location of Jarovlje in Vlasenici and two locations in the Bišina-Šekovići area.
The suspects who are charged with the crime of genocide then organized machinery and carried out activities to remove the bodies of the murdered, the Prosecution stated.
They will be brought to the acting prosecutor, who will decide on further activities in this case after the examination.
The Prosecutor's Office added that it is continuing activities with partner police agencies with the aim of identifying other persons who participated in the commission of those crimes.
In the genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995, according to the verdicts of international courts and courts in BiH, more than 8.000 Bosniaks were killed.
About 50 people have been sentenced to more than 700 years in prison for genocide and crimes in Srebrenica.
