The High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Kristijan Šmit said today that he is not afraid of threats from the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and that he will visit Banjaluka.
Schmidt said that he "doesn't feel like a coward and a weakling" for not going to Banjulka yesterday, but that he "turned out to be wiser" than Dodik.
"Barricades were set up to prevent my arrival. Why were some streets closed? The music festival is only on Friday. Either they have been preparing for it for days or they tried to prevent my arrival," Schmidt told regional N1 television.
According to him, if one imagines a situation where he is attacked in front of the cameras and is forcibly prevented from entering one of the entities' institutions, no one in Europe would be happy about that, except in Banja Luka and, perhaps, Moscow.
"You would have a situation that would cause crisis meetings and this country would be further from Europe. I acted wisely," said Schmidt.
He added that "he will definitely come to Banjaluka", but he did not specify when that would happen.
"I will fulfill my obligations and many will be surprised how it will look. If I were afraid to go to a part of the country that is a candidate for the EU because someone is threatening me, then something would be wrong with me," said the high representative in BiH.
