Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today in New York that European officials will "give him a lecture" during meetings at the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) because Serbia did not impose sanctions on Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine.
"European officials will lecture me, and so will everyone else, as befits. I will listen to them carefully and say it's nice that you gave me a lecture, I lead Serbia as president and as long as we think we can withstand these lectures, we will to lead this kind of policy," Vučić told reporters in New York, where he is attending the UN General Assembly.
He added that when he realizes that he can't do it anymore, he won't lead such a policy, but that Serbia has been leading a policy of responsibility for a year and seven months, it is honest, responsible and fair.
Today in New York, he will meet for lunch with the presidents of the countries of the Western Balkans, and tomorrow with Chinese Vice President Hang Zheng.
"We will have more important bilateral meetings with everyone who can influence in any way in the future both in terms of investments and in terms of political and regional issues important for Serbia," he said.
He repeated that he met with the Chancellor of Germany and the President of Turkey, as well as that he had a "long and very responsible conversation with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, perhaps the longest conversation was with him."
