The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, says that Serbia could also change its position on the issue of Macedonia's name.

He said it later the official Skopje announcement that it is changing its stance on abstention during the vote on Kosovo's admission to UNESCO.

"If Macedonia really votes for the admission of Kosovo to UNESCO, even though it is aware of how much it affects Serbia and the Serbian people, I will suggest to President Vučić that Serbia, in relation to the name under which we recognized Macedonia, also, like those regarding the admission of Kosovo to UNESCO, have we see the position of the European Union," said Dacic for Tanjug.

Serbia recognized Macedonia under its constitutional name Republic of Macedonia, while most EU countries call it the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Tanjug reminds.

The name of that country is a subject of dispute with Greece, which disputes the name Macedonia.

In a statement to Tanjug, Dacic indicates that the official Skopje announcement that it will take into account the position of the majority of EU member states in the vote for Kosovo and Metohija's membership in UNESCO is "directly contrary to all previous statements by Macedonian Prime Minister Zaev, that Macedonia will abstain".

He pointed out that, in addition to public statements on the subject, Zaev also expressed his stance on restraint to Prime Minister Brnabić in Trieste.

"The change in attitude will directly affect our good-neighborly relations," said the head of Serbian diplomacy, said Dacic.

According to him, good relations are the goal of Serbia, but only on the basis of reciprocity.
