The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated that members of Veljko Belivuk's criminal group did not secure his inauguration in 2017 in Belgrade, "but it is possible that one of them came then".
"At the same time, they had not committed any murder or anything until then. And they never secured the gathering, nor did they receive any permission from us, nor did we pay them for such a thing. We know who does the security work, those people are well paid... but you invented it. But what should I do now," said Vučić in an interview for NIN.
He also denied that Belivuk's men were hired as private security and harassed journalists.
"Come on, these are such fabrications that I have no words. I don't know what you wanted to say? That I went and that in fact I bought them that garage... And that I slaughtered people there. What's the point? Well I I arrested them myself. When I say I, I mean the people whom I told to do everything necessary, because the situation became really unbearable. And the people really did everything in accordance with the law," said Vučić.
To the statement that there is a police note for the General Secretary of the Government, Novak Nedić, which proves that he is in very close relations with the Belivuk group, he replied that "a police note never proves anything, it can only indicate something".
According to him, it was investigated to the end and it turned out that Nedic did not participate in criminal activities.
"So, you can prosecute someone if there is evidence of a criminal offense, and not on the basis of journalistic articles. The state is not a tabloid," said Vučić.
