The EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, said today that the enlargement of the European Union is a geostrategic investment in peace, security and prosperity.

The main topics of the talks are deepening political engagement with the Western Balkans, bringing partners from that region closer to the Union and improving its gradual integration, building economic foundations for the future and mitigating the impact of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as strengthening security and building resilience, the EU Council announced earlier. .
"This important summit aims to create closer ties between the EU and the region, our future EU members," Borelj wrote on the social network X (X), formerly Twitter.
The summit, which is being held on the eve of the two-day meeting of the leaders of the EU member states in Brussels, is an opportunity to confirm the perspective of the membership of the Western Balkans in the Union, as well as the need for sustainable and irreversible reform achievements of the Western Balkan six, based on the values and principles of the Union, the Council of the EU stated.
In addition to the leaders of the EU and its 27 member states, the prime ministers of Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania, Ana Brnabić, Dimitar Kovačevski and Edi Rama, the presidents of Montenegro and Kosovo, Jakov Milatović and Vjosa Osmani, as well as the chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will participate in the summit.
