Representatives of the government and the opposition in Kosovo believe that it is good to hold extraordinary parliamentary elections this year.

Since the end of the war in 1999, elections have been held eight times in Kosovo, only three times within the regular legal term, while five times they were extraordinary.

According to the election calendar, parliamentary elections should be held next February, 2025, but there are high chances that they will be premature.

The President of the Assembly Gljauk Konjufca and the head of MPs of the ruling Self-Determination Party (PS) Mimoza Kusari Lila said that "it is good to go to extraordinary elections".

"I cannot rule out the possibility of early elections," said Konjufca.

He said that for many reasons it would be good for the new government to finish some processes that Kosovo is going through.

Kusari Lila said that 2024 is a year with many dynamics in the world and that it can have an impact on Kosovo as well.

She said that therefore it would not be unreasonable if the elections were held at the end of this year, and not at the beginning of next year.

She added that "there is a possibility of talks between political entities and the president (of Kosovo) in order to find a common date", and that "would not be a novelty" - if the elections were to be held early.

The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK) and the opposition in the Kosovo parliament, Memlji Krasnići, is convinced that this year will be an election year.

"This can already be seen from the statements and actions of the Government and Prime Minister (Aljbin of Kosovo) Kurti, from pre-election meetings, but also from the not at all correct and fair way of spending the state budget on various subsidies that they made and planned," he said.

He could not say when the early elections would be:

"I believe that in 2024 we will still have early elections, but I cannot say with certainty whether they will be in June, October, earlier or later".

Member of Parliament of the Democratic Union of Kosovo (DSK), Rezarta Krasnići, stated that Kosovo will go to the elections in early 2024.

"After the New Year, there will be elections right away. The sooner the country goes to the elections, the better because the citizens are getting poorer," she said.

As she pointed out, there is an increase in prices, there is no abolition of value added tax, nor abolition of excise duty.

And the vice-president of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (ABK) Ardijan Djini assessed that, "if we take into account all the circumstances in Kosovo, including the political beliefs of the people and the ideas we see, the chances are that we will have extraordinary elections in 2024".
