The Kosovo Police, in cooperation with the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX), searched the building in the center of Zvečani - a municipality with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo - where sandbags were found.
The Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police for the Northern Region, Veton Eljšani, said that this facility in Zvečan was used by the organizations Civil Protection and the Northern Brigade.
These two organizations were declared terrorist by the Government of Kosovo at the end of June 2023.
"This is also proof that the criminal groups were armed and planned to attack the Kosovo police in case they try to remove the barricades," Ejsani said.
He stated that the "material things" found in that facility were also used during the barricades in the north, but he did not specify exactly when.
"Today, during police checks, it was found that on the third floor of this building there are dozens of sandbags, which were used for trenches during attacks on the police, defense of barricades and control of the main road leading to Zvečan," said Eljšani.
Serbs from the north of Kosovo erected barricades on several occasions in order to oppose the decisions of the Kosovo authorities. The last barricades were set up on December 10, 2022, due to the arrest of former Kosovo policeman Dejan Pantić, who was accused of assaulting officials of the Central Election Commission.
They were removed at the end of December, when Pantić was placed under house arrest.
