The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, will participate this week in Tirana at the Ukraine-Southeastern Europe summit, where the participation of 13 European leaders, including the Western Balkans Six, as well as an EU official, has been announced.
As reported by the Albanian media, the Summit for Ukraine will be held on Wednesday, February 28, in the Palace of Congress in Tirana, and the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will address the participants via video link.
The following day, on February 29, Tirana will host a summit of leaders of the Western Balkans who will discuss the European integration of the region and the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced her participation in the meeting.
The growth plan for the Western Balkans envisages financial support of six billion euros, of which two billion are non-reimbursable grants, and four billion are soft loans provided by the EU, with the aim of stimulating economic growth in the region and accelerating socioeconomic harmonization.
The plan covers the period from 2024 to 2027 and foresees that each government of the Western Balkans six will receive a certain amount of money every six months, depending on the reforms it implemented during that period.
