The information that Igor Dodik, the son of the president of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, received Croatian citizenship is not true, Croatian portal nacional.hr announced, citing a source close to the police.
As that source claims, the news that has spread about Dodik Jr. is not true and adds that no application for citizenship has been submitted either.
Nacional.hr states that it also asked the Croatian Ministry of Internal Affairs about this topic on Wednesday evening, and their answer is transmitted in its entirety.
"An inspection of the records of applications for acquiring Croatian citizenship by birth, kept in the Ministry of the Interior, found that a person named Igor Dodik (father Milorad) did not submit an application for acquiring Croatian citizenship. Therefore, the information that the person was granted Croatian citizenship, which was transmitted some media is incorrect," the MUP of Croatia told nacional.hr.
Former inspector of the Croatian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Nikola Kajkić, announced yesterday that Igor Dodik received Croatian citizenship about 15 days ago.
As reported by the Sarajevo media Oslobođenje, he said this as a guest on the Velebit Podcast.
"And now I'll tell you the highlight. Here, I told your viewers, we're taking off the gloves. About 15 days ago, he got citizenship from the Ministry of the Interior, you know who? Igor Dodik. Son of Milorad Dodik. I didn't even tell you this in the preparation show that I will say. When did he get it? About 13-14 days ago," said Kajkic.
He expressed his astonishment considering that in order to acquire Croatian citizenship, certain conditions must be met, and one must also declare himself as a Croat.
"So, citizenship can be acquired by birth or descent. Let me translate. You have to be born in Croatia, live a certain number of years, you have to be Croat, Catholic, etc. These are basically the conditions that give you the basis to get Croatian citizenship. And maybe "Has Milorad Dodik revealed that he is a Croat? He is not a Croat. He is by origin, only he will never admit it. He declares himself as an Orthodox and a Serb," added Kajkic.
