The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton (MUP KS) announced last night that 2 people were arrested in the "Black Tie 23" operation, who are linked to the "Tito and Dino" drug cartel.
Among those arrested is the Acting Director of the Police of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FUP), Vehid Munjić, as well as the head of the Special Police of the FUP, Mustafa Selmanović.
Sarajevo businessman Gordan Memija was also arrested, as was the director of the Cantonal Hospital in Zenica, Tarik Zulović.
Last night, the KS MUP announced the initials of all those arrested, including three women.
The press release states that the operation was carried out by order of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, that it collected evidence from encrypted Sky and Anom applications, as well as that the FBI, DEA and Europol provided support in the implementation of the operation.
"At more than 30 locations in the Sarajevo Canton area, residential buildings, motor vehicles, and premises of legal entities were searched today, and those arrested are suspected of organized crime, money laundering, accepting bribes and abuse of official authority," the statement said.
All of them were arrested for criminal processing in the official premises of the Police Department of the Sarajevo MUP Canton.
Drug lord Edin Gačanin, known as Tito, entered into an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office in the Netherlands in November last year and was sentenced to seven years in prison and a fine of one million euros for drug smuggling.
Gačanin is the biggest Balkan drug lord, has Dutch citizenship, and has been on the American "blacklist" since March last year.
A native of Sarajevo, Gačanin included members of his family and friends from Bosnia and Herzegovina in his cartel.
