In the Tašmajdan Park, near the "Why" monument, a memorial service was held tonight for the employees of the Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) who died in the NATO bombing of the RTS building in 1999.
As reported by RTS, at 2.06:XNUMX a.m. family members, management and colleagues from RTS, representatives of journalist associations, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs Nikola Selaković and others gave the mail.
Among those present were the general director of RTS Dragan Bujošević, the president of the RTS Board Branislav Klanšček, as well as representatives of UNS and NUNS and trade unions.
The RTS building was bombed during a news broadcast at 2.06:23 a.m. on April 1999, 16, and XNUMX RTS workers died at their workplaces.
With a minute of silence, mail was given to those killed, and on behalf of the families of the victims, Miroslav Medić, the brother of the victim Siniša Medić, addressed the crowd.
He said that NATO decided to bomb a media house, located in a densely populated part of the city, for the first time in the history of warfare.
Medić added that NATO wanted to show "all its power, arrogance and impunity" by killing civilians in cold blood and destroying commercial and civilian facilities throughout the country at the time in the 78 days of war that they waged without the approval of the United Nations Security Council.
"Without any clear warning to the employees, they targeted the building of Radio and Television of Serbia, not taking into account for a single moment the possible number of civilian victims," said Medić.
