The President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik said today that Montenegro's support for the announced resolution of the UN General Assembly declaring July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide in 1995 is a "shameful act".
"As for Montenegro, of course we are not comfortable, but we will not forget," Dodik told reporters in Banja Luka, adding that he did not expect Montenegro to "continue such a brutal policy towards the Serbs" because it previously recognized the independence of Kosovo and "has some relation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, not counting the fact that there is also Republika Srpska".
Dodik said that the RS supports the Serbian people in Montenegro, who, as he assessed, were "oppressed" during the rule of Milo Đukanović, and "we see that even now the circumstances and freedoms for our people in Montenegro have not improved".
Dodik went on to say that Jasenovac and Srebrenica are not comparable and "Serbs, especially from the RS, should avoid the trap of comparison. They want to give importance to Srebrenica, and not to pay respect and reverence to the victims in Jasenovac. That should stop".
According to him, the proposed resolution on Srebrenica is a "difficult document" that will remain permanently in the people's perception.
"And now we see those who would wash their conscience and then behave like that. Srpska does not accept that," said Dodik.
He stated that he believes that the resolution has nothing to do with court rulings, but "is a political platform that should enable the destruction of the RS".
The Serbian member of the BiH Presidency, Željka Cvijanović, assessed that the resolution on Srebrenica "was brought to the field of vote counting and thus insulted all the victims".
"They worked covertly. Without consensus, they violated all possible procedures. They are also changing the voting mechanism in the UN General Assembly in order to have more votes. It is really an insult to all the victims," Cvijanović said.
She reminded that BiH Ambassador to the UN Zlatko Lagumdžija proposed the adoption of the resolution in Srebrenica, despite the decision of the Presidency of BiH - the only body responsible for conducting foreign policy according to the Constitution.
