The Government of Serbia signed a contract on the General Staff with the company headed by Trump's son-in-law

The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesić, signed, on behalf of the Government of Serbia, an agreement on the revitalization of the General Staff complex with the American company Affinity Global Development, headed by Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump.

Vesić said that everything that will be done within the revitalization of the complex will be done in accordance with the laws and in cooperation with the Government of Serbia and all relevant institutions in the country that are responsible for urban planning and the protection of cultural heritage, the Ministry announced, reports FoNet.

Vesić pointed out that Serbia did not sell the land on which the building is located, but, as stated in the contract, leased the land for 99 years.

"The investor has assumed the obligation that, if he does not complete the investment within the period specified in the contract, he will return the land and what will be built until then to the Republic of Serbia without compensation. The land remains the property of the Republic of Serbia," said the Minister of Construction of Serbia.

According to what is known so far from the statements of the participants in this work and documents available to the public, there will be a luxury residential complex, a hotel and a memorial complex dedicated to the victims of the NATO bombing on the site of the General Staff.

The value of the investment will be, as Kushner said, around 500 million dollars, and Serbia will receive 22 percent of the profit.

The contract that was signed is not available to the public, but in the memorandum previously published by Ekološki Ustanak, which allegedly referred to earlier agreements between the Government of Serbia and Kushner, it is stated that the land at the location of the General Staff will be given for use for 99 years without compensation.

It is not known whether the Government of Serbia announced a tender for this job, nor whether Jared Kushner's company was the best bidder at that tender.

Also, it is not known how construction will be approved on the site of the General Staff, which has been declared a cultural monument and enjoys certain protection.

Minister Vesić, as reported by FoNet, said that the investor has an obligation to build a memorial complex dedicated to all the victims of NATO aggression from 1999 at that place.

"The memorial complex will be financed by investors and will be owned by the Republic of Serbia, which will decide on the program content of the complex and will manage it," emphasized Vesić.

The design of the future Memorial Complex will be determined at an international public architectural competition.

General Director of Affinity Global Development Asher Abešepa said that the project includes a unique aspect of cooperation in which Serbian architects and designers will be invited to submit their ideas for the Memorial Center.

"In this way, reconstruction not only represents a fusion of Serbian and American innovation, but also shows respect for domestic artistic expression. Reconstruction does not only mean the construction of buildings, but also the construction of bridges between cultures, respect for the past and the creation of a foundation for a prosperous future," he said.
