Prime Minister of North Macedonia Taljat Džaferi, who was also elected as a member of the Parliament, announced today that he will perform the function of Prime Minister until the election of a new government, but that he will not participate in the work of the Assembly until then.
Džaferi said this at the constitutive session of the new convocation of the Assembly (Parliament) of North Macedonia, referring to the Constitution, laws and previous practice.
He emphasized that he will not participate in the work of the new parliament and its decision-making in order to fulfill the legal provisions of the Law on Prevention of Corruption and Conflict of Interest, according to which he cannot perform two functions at the same time.
At today's constitutive session, Afrim Gaši, a member of the "Vrijedi" coalition, which is in the final phase of negotiations with VMRO DPMNE on the formation of a new coalition government, was chosen as the president of the Assembly of North Macedonia, in which, according to available information, the third partner of this parliamentary majority, Movement "I know - For our Macedonia".
According to the procedure, the president of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, after receiving the notification that the Assembly has been constituted, has a deadline of ten days to hand over the mandate to the representative of the parliamentary majority, which in this case is the leader of the VMRO DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski, who, in turn, has a deadline of 20 days to form a government.
The transitional government of North Macedonia to conduct the elections was elected on January 28, and Džaferi (DUI) took over the prime ministership from Dimitar Kovačevski (SDSM) a day later.
In the parliamentary elections held on May 8, the coalition of the conservative VMRO DPMNE "Your Makedonija" won, winning 58 mandates in the parliament, which has a total of 120 seats.
The coalition SDSM "For the European Future" and "European Front" led by DUI each have 18 seats, the coalition "Vrijedi" has 14 seats, and the Party "Levica" and the Movement "Znam - Za našu Macedonia" have six seats each.
