A member of the Gendarmerie MJ was shot in the neck with a crossbow in front of the Embassy of Israel in Belgrade, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reports.
In self-defense, he returned fire and overcame the attacker, who died from his wounds.
Serbian Police Minister Ivica Dacic announced that an unknown person, whose identity is being determined, shot a member of the Gendarmerie who was on duty guarding the Israeli Embassy with a crossbow.
"Today around 11 a.m., an unidentified person, whose identity is being determined, shot a member of the Gendarmerie who was on security duty at the Israeli embassy with a crossbow, and hit him in the neck. Gendarmerie member MJ (1990) used his weapon in self-defense and defeated the attacker, who died as a result of his injuries," said Dacic.
RTS states that the policeman was transported to the Emergency Center in a conscious state, where an operation to remove the arrow from the neck will be performed.
"All the circumstances of the attack and possible motives are being investigated," said Dacic, who will visit the wounded member of the Gendarmerie in the Emergency Center.
