The Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, today dismissed as "phantasmagoria" the claims of Kosovo Prime Minister Aljbin Kurti that by setting up military bases on the administrative line, Serbia is "waiting for an opportunity to enter Kosovo".
In a post on the Instagram social network, Vučević stated that the bases of the Serbian Army (SRB) have been located on the administrative line for "years" and that by setting up those checkpoints, Serbia is not violating any international agreement or UN Resolution 1244.
"The fact that Kurti, for the umpteenth time, is trying to create a media drama 'how the so-called Kosovo is allegedly threatened', is nothing more than selling the fog to his Western sponsors," wrote Vučević.
He assessed that "only the Serbian people" are at risk in Kosovo and Metohija, which, according to Vučević, is the same Kurti who is denying basic human rights.
"So, the only ones who are threatened in Kosovo and Metohija are the Serbs, and that is because of the constant violence, provocations, destructive actions and media spin carried out by Kurti himself. The Serbian Army, thanks for the question, will continue to strengthen and modernize, because it is the guarantor of the peace and security of our Serbia," the prime minister wrote.
Kosovo Prime Minister Aljbin Kurti yesterday asked the international community to put pressure on Serbia so that the military bases around Kosovo would be removed.
In an interview with CNN, he said that Serbia is a "very aggressive neighbor" and that it is "waiting for an opportunity to enter Kosovo", and that Western partners should prevent this.
"There are 48 operational bases around the border that are waiting for an opportunity. What we are asking from the Western partners is pressure on Belgrade to withdraw these bases, each of which has 50-150 soldiers," said Kurti.
