The front page of the Serbian weekly NIN caused great controversy in Serbia.
The front cover shows the entrance to the Auschwitz Nazi camp, with the supertitle "Secret contracts and public slander", and the title "Work camp Serbia".
NIN then wonders if there is an end to the state's courting of investors who are allowed to do everything, even to disobey the laws, and why would they when the Government itself does not respect them.
Nedjeljnik thus reflected on the situation in several factories where workers work in inhumane conditions, and which are owned by foreign investors who were brought in by Aleksandar Vučić and who gave them large state subsidies.
The collegium of NIN apologized to the readers who were allegedly offended by the "provocative illustration" on the front page of this weekly.
The Nedeljnik stated in a statement that the front page, on which the gate of the Nazi camp Auschwitz was shown, with the inscription in German "Labor liberates" and the title "Work Camp Serbia", caused "tumultuous reactions".
"It was absolutely not our intention to insult the victims of the Holocaust, but exclusively to criticize the Government of Serbia for disobeying the valid labor and strike laws, which it proposed itself," states the statement signed by NIN editor-in-chief Milan Ćulibrk.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Zorana Mihajlović, said that the front page represents an abuse of press freedom, while the President of the Assembly, Maja Gojković, said that it was an insult to Serbia.
