Dragan Đilas, president of the Freedom and Justice Party, sent an open letter to the American ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, reports the Belgrade newspaper Danas.
Đilas states in the letter that based on Hill's statement "that he sees protests against lithium as a fight against Serbia's path to the west," he sees confirmation of rumors that Hill is on the payroll of Aleksandar Vučić, the president of Serbia.
We transmit the letter in its entirety:
"Mr. Hill,
In your statement "that you see protests against lithium as a struggle against Serbia's path to the west", I see confirmation of rumors that you are also on the payroll of Aleksandar Vučić. I really don't know how else to explain that in the fight for democratic values, for a healthy life, for preventing the pollution of a large part of Serbia, that is, for European, i.e. Western values, you see what you said.
It is even more strange that you do not see anti-Western attitudes in the appointment of Aleksandar Vulin as Deputy Prime Minister or the Prime Minister's statement that Serbia will never harmonize its foreign policy with the European Union. You don't see a problem for Serbia's path to Europe, neither in the theft of elections, nor in the level of corruption, nor in the harassment of political opponents, nor in the decline of democracy... You don't see a problem in the state of the Serbian media, their abuse by Vučić and the amount of lies they bury citizens with. On the contrary, praise TV PINK and Željko Mitrović wherever you go. But you see the problem in the fact that three quarters of Serbia do not accept the hypocritical attitude of parts of both the West and the East, which reads: "Green energy for us, and complete blackness for the Serbs". Well, he won't be able to, Mr. Hill.
You finished with Vučić a large part about the creation of an independent Kosovo without bothering about what is happening to the Serbs in Kosovo, as well as the fact that what is being done now will cause new wars in a few decades.
You have finished with Vučić the jobs for the American Bechtel, the jobs for your companies that deal with solar energy... But, unfortunately, with Vučić you cannot finish the extraction of lithium because Vučić no longer asks anything. The Serbian people and the citizens of Serbia are wondering. And they said no. Just as the majority of that people, despite the hypocritical attitude of the part of the West, to which you also belong, does not give up the attitude that Serbia is part of Europe. For that Europe and its freedom, we died and bled more than most other nations, and we will not allow you, Vučić, or anyone else to separate us from it."
