The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said today that, as the supreme commander and president of that republic, he signed his consent to perform regular military service for 75 days.

"I want to believe that the Government of Serbia will adopt that decision. I want to believe that you all understand how much we need a strong army, how much more we will have to buy weapons, to make, to create," said Vučić at the promotion of the youngest second lieutenants of the Serbian Army, a ceremony which takes place in front of the Serbian Parliament building.

He said that it is not Serbia's desire to attack anyone, nor will it do so.

"It is our desire to deter all those who are threatening us every day," he said.

He told the new second lieutenants that they are "that bulwark and the strongest rock that guarantees that deterrence".

"Thank you for the love you dedicated to our Serbia, for the years of not easy schooling, to your parents who showed, family, who showed enormous love for their Serbia, their homeland," said Vučić.
