Albanian opposition politicians set fire to a pile of wooden chairs in front of the parliament on Monday to protest the arrest of their colleague.
At the beginning of the regular parliamentary session, opposition MPs took the chairs out of the parliamentary hall and set them on fire on the steps of the building.
Members of the security service quickly extinguished the fire.
The Court of Appeal of Albania on Friday upheld the verdict of a lower court by which Ervin Salijani, a member of the opposition Democratic Party, was sentenced to one year in prison.
A lower court found Salijanji guilty of a "false report" against the former interior minister. Salijanji denied guilt and said the trial was politically motivated.
Earlier this month, Democratic Party leader Salji Berisha, who has been under house arrest since December, was charged with corruption for actions he took while he was prime minister from 2005 to 2013. Berisha also denies guilt.
The Democratic Party called for a large protest in the capital Tirana on October 7.
