Prime Minister of Kosovo Aljbin Kurti requested the return of the land security zone of five kilometers between Serbia and Kosovo, due to the alleged threats to the army and artillery that have been sent in the last two years.
At the meeting of the Main Board of the Self-Determination movement, he also presented a request that the EU, USA and Great Britain stop the benefits they give to Serbia, as well as that the West sanctions all those who protect and cooperate with terrorists and persons on the US blacklist.
The request for the return of the security zone was explained by the activities of Serbia in the approach of the army and artillery to the border with Kosovo in the last two years.
"Given that Serbia has brought its army to our border four times in two years, the land security zone, five kilometers wide around Kosovo's border with Serbia, must be restored. It was removed in August 2001, when Zoran Djindjic was prime minister. , and that abuses the regime of Aleksandar Vučić," said Kurti and assessed that the current leadership in Serbia remained aggressive, as it was during the war.
He accused Serbia of not wanting progress in the normalization of relations with Kosovo, mentioned the non-implementation of the Brussels Agreement and last year's attack on Banjska, which he said had the main goal of starting a broad and long conflict.
Kurti asked the West to stop aid to Serbia and to sanction all those who protect and cooperate with terrorists and persons who are on the US blacklist.
"Therefore, we call on the democratic West, especially the European Union, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, to make the current benefits conditional on Serbia. Those who cooperate with blacklisted persons in the Balkans should be sanctioned by the USA, the EU and the United Kingdom. Those who are members of the organizations 'Civil Defense' and 'Northern Brigade', they are actually criminals who walk freely. The fact that they are on the blacklist is not an effective (measure)," said Kurti.
Kurti defended the actions of the Kosovo authorities in the north of Kosovo, which the international community described as unilateral and uncoordinated.
"Those who complain about our unilateral actions complain about why we declared independence. The rule of law for a sovereign state is like breathing. Their attacks on us are proof of our success. Their attempt to build a time machine that takes them back to before 1999, before 2008 . or before 2021 is an expression of the revisionist character of the regime in Serbia, and this is based on the aggressive constitution of Serbia. All our obligations are not only based on the will of the people, but also on democratic values," said Kurti .
The Kosovo Prime Minister also expressed the view that the actions in the north - including the closure of institutions that operated under the Serbian system, the ban on the use of the Serbian dinar for cash payments and other actions - are within the scope of (realizing) sovereignty and law enforcement.
He repeated the request that Serbia sign the Agreement on the Road to Normalization of Relations and the Ohrid Agreement and withdraw the letter of former Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabić addressed to the 27 EU countries, which, as he said, disputes the territorial integrity of Kosovo.
