The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin, opened the opening panel of the scientific conference on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade today in the Russian House in Belgrade with a speech on the revision of history and its meaning for Serbs and Russians.
The organizers of the meeting "Culture of memory and nurturing of historical truth" are the Committee of the Government of Serbia for nurturing the traditions of the liberation wars of Serbia, the Embassy of Russia and the Russian Center for Science and Culture.
In his speech, Vulin said that the revision of history began even before the end of the Second World War and that "Serbs and Russians, sometimes consciously and sometimes unconsciously, participated in it, allowing history to change before our eyes, thinking that by we turn our heads from what our neighbors and compatriots, allies did during the Second World War, we can make sure that evil does not happen again," the Government of Serbia reported.
Regarding the fact that "today, both Serbs and Russians talk about Nazi Germany", Vulin said that "that is not true: Germany was not Nazi, Germany was Germany. The German state was not called 'Nazi Germany', but it was called what The constitution and laws dictate that Hitler was not a Nazi dictator, but was a legally and legitimately elected representative of the vast majority of the German people."
He concluded that when talking about "Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, they are doing a favor, they are being offered the opportunity to present the crimes committed by their grandfathers as crimes committed by someone else".
Vulin said that "you will not find Wehrmacht stamps with 'Nazism' written on them, and no decision to shoot Serbs, Russians, Jews was made in the party workshop of the National Socialist Workers' Party, but in the regular bodies of the German state."
On the Eastern Front, he continued, "there were seven million German soldiers, and how many were members of the Nazi party? Not even close to seven million".
"Seven million citizens of Germany, knowingly and willingly, legally and legitimately, listening to the competent authorities, in accordance with the laws of their own country, went to kill as many Russians, Serbs, Jews, Roma, all those who were determined, in accordance with the ruling ideology German states, as subhumans that needed to be destroyed," said Vulin.
He said that the revision of the Second World War began at the moment when "Soviet lives no longer mattered for the victory because the victory was achieved and that was when the preparation for the next conflict began."
"It was difficult, almost impossible, to convince the generations of people born and grown up during World War II that we should confront the Soviet Union. (...) And that's why we waited 50 years for the entire wartime generation to disappear from the political and historical stage in order to have prepared for a big rematch," said Vulin.
With the unification of Germany, he assessed, "the defeated powers in the Second World War, with the breakup of Yugoslavia and the USSR, the victor in the Second World War, is starting a great historical rematch".
"The descendants of criminals from the Second World War are not ashamed of the crimes of their grandfathers, but of their defeat, and that is why they are looking for a historical rematch, a new division of the world, a new drawing of maps. That is why the revision of history, that is why you have to show that Russians and Serbs are nations of killers, criminals, nations that they couldn't bring freedom to anyone because they don't feel it themselves, so you could start a historical showdown with them," said the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia.
"The time in which we live is the time of a renewed attempt at a historical reckoning with the Slavs, Russians in the first place, and consequently also with other peoples who are considered to be Russia's natural allies," Vulin emphasized.
In his words, the Government reported, "both Serbs and Russians naively and historically irresponsibly believed that they had liberated someone, but they didn't - neither Zagreb nor Vienna were liberated, they felt free under the Germans".
"If (Croatian fascist commander and dictator Ante) Pavelić had been able to participate in the elections in 1944, he would have won convincingly with a huge majority of the votes of the Croatian people. It will be difficult for anyone to convince me that the vast majority of the Croatian people did not know about the existence of Jasenovac, Jadovno and every Serbian execution ground. and it is even more difficult to convince that they were not sincere with what was happening there," continued Vulin.
"We naively believed that we were liberating peoples who felt genuinely free under German rule, not occupation. Hence the historical misunderstanding between us and them, because we are angry with them because they are not grateful to us for the freedom we gave them, and they say: "You occupied us, we were free under Germany," he said in a speech.
Vulin assessed that "that's why monuments to Soviet fighters are being demolished today, because they remind us of the defeat in the Second World War. That's why history is brutally changing today."
The Deputy Prime Minister said that "if the Russians and Serbs were peoples who broke not their lack of freedom, but their natural sense of belonging, then any evil inflicted on Serbs and Russians is actually allowed and is a civilizational obligation".
"In order to start a big showdown with Russia, Serbia, and the Slavs, you must first dehumanize them, portray them as peoples who have no human virtues and values, peoples of rapists, robbers, criminals. Against such people, every evil is allowed, every war, conflict, everything is allowed. And more than that, it's even necessary. At least we Serbs know that all the lies were necessary to justify the bombing in 1999. The Russians are also looking at this by their own example," said Vulin.
He assessed that "even today we see that the bombing of Serbia has not ended. As long as they ask us to recognize Kosovo, the bombing of Serbia has not ended because its goal was the destruction of Serbia and its territorial dismemberment.., as long as we listen to how the Serbs should give up on themselves, impose sanctions on the Russian Federation".
"We know that the bombing of Serbia has not ended, because such a request can only be made to occupied Serbia in 1944, and not to free Serbia in 2024. That is why revisions of history are needed, that is why it is necessary to demolish the monuments to the liberators, to turn our people into a nation of murderers, rapists, and villains. ", continued Vulin.
"That is why it is necessary to make our democratic systems an example of a dictatorship in which all elections are fake and bought, because a nation that does not have the freedom to choose within itself cannot be a nation that will bring freedom to itself and to others. That is why today it is necessary to make Serbia and Russia countries that are not worthy of independent decision-making, but decisions will be made, imposed on them, and the holders of power will only be sent to them because they don't know how to choose anyway," he said.
He concluded by saying that "the revision of history is not only a washing of the conscience of the people who participated in the Second World War, the revision of history is an ideological justification of the evil that will be inflicted and is being inflicted on the Russian and Serbian people".
