In the area of Bihać and Bosanska Krupa in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the evening of October 25, eight people were arrested in connection with the terrorist attack by minors on the police station in Bosanska Krupa, in which one policeman was killed and another was wounded.
This was confirmed for Radio Free Europe (RSE) by Adnan Beganović, spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of the Una-Sana Canton (USK).
On Thursday evening, October 24, a XNUMX-year-old broke into the police station and killed police officer Ozren Maran and wounded police officer Avdo Hasanović.
As the spokesperson told RSE, on the evening of October 25, residential buildings were searched, where a certain amount of weapons, ammunition, laptops, phones, portable USB stickers, a large amount of money, and a large amount of paper slips in the Arabic language were found.
The action was carried out by members of the USK criminal police, with the assistance of the State Security Agency (SIPA).
Police officer Ozren Maran will be buried in Novi Grad (formerly Bosanski Novi) on Saturday, October 26.
The head of the Municipality of Novi Grad, Miroslav Drljača, declared the Day of Mourning on the day of the funeral of the murdered policeman Maran.
The USK government also declared a Day of Mourning on the day of the funeral.
It is not known what motivated the juvenile killer from Bosanska Krupa.
Officials from that city in the west of Bosnia and Herzegovina neither denied nor confirmed media reports about the boy's religiously motivated move.
Considering that it is a minor and that the investigation is ongoing, apart from the information that certain items were taken from his home, there were no other details.
The chief prosecutor of the USK said that it was a terrorist act.
Security expert Safet Mušić told RSE that "this is an attack on a police station and thus on a state institution, which again causes fear and panic, and these are some of the main elements when we can characterize an act as terrorist. ". However, as he said, "a political motive is missing".
The police of the Una-Sana Canton said that they had no previous threats or information about the attack on the police station, nor was the person who carried out the attack known to them beforehand.
