Croatia will deliver part of its tanks and combat vehicles to Ukraine, and will buy up to 50 new Leopard tanks from Germany, the Croatian Ministry of Defense announced today.
Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anušić and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorijus discussed this in Berlin today.
As stated in the announcement, the main topic of the meeting was the equipping and modernization of the Croatian Army with an emphasis on the procurement of new Leopard 2A8 tanks.
Germany has invited Croatia to join the German program for the joint procurement of the Leopard 2A8 main battle tank.
The ministers signed a letter of intent in which they expressed their readiness to deliver 30 M-84 tanks and 30 M-80 infantry fighting vehicles from Croatian stocks to Ukraine in the first delivery, and that the financial resources that Croatia will receive from Germany for these tanks and combat vehicles used to purchase new German Leopard 2A8s.
"By this amount, the total price of the new Leopard 2A8 would be reduced. Given the needs of the Croatian Army, Croatia intends to acquire up to 50 new Leopard 2A8," the statement of the Croatian Ministry states.
Anušić emphasized that Germany is an important partner for Croatia in the field of defense and added that the priority is to strengthen and expand this cooperation, the statement added.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Croatia is a reliable partner and that by signing the letter of intent, it has decided to invest in its armed forces.
