The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that he demands that the Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad and the Government of Serbia prosecute and severely punish the persons responsible for the collapse of part of the canopy in Novi Sad, as a result of which 14 people died.
"Those responsible, I assure you, will be punished," said Vučić.
"Eight persons are citizens of the Republic of Serbia, and one is from North Macedonia. It is difficult to say anything rational in these moments, but we must all find the strength to unite and help, as much as we can, the families of the victims, so that the damage is as small as possible." Vucic said.
According to RTS, he thanked the rescuers and workers who used machines to try to save every life in the tragedy in Novi Sad.
Vučić also said that he will not talk about those who, because of their petty interests, would not think and talk about the tragedy, but deal with things that are not necessary on this day, as well as those who would hide from the authorities under the auspices of the government. responsibilities.
He said that all those responsible for the collapse of part of the canopy in Novi Sad will be punished.
"As the President of the Republic, who was elected to this position with the greatest support of the citizens, I am asking the High Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad and the Government that the responsible persons be prosecuted and severely punished. When I say the Government, I am also asking for political, and before that, criminal responsibility. It is theirs it's work," noted Vučić.
He added that it is almost unbelievable that the 60-year-old canopy has not been renovated.
"Are we all to blame in the last 60 years, that we failed to restore the infrastructure everywhere - certainly. Those who designed things, perhaps executed them or did not execute them, are especially guilty. It is certain that those whose duty was the infrastructure, railways, transport infrastructure and the safety of our people," said Vučić.
